DiSTURBiA !!
In the movie Disturbia, Kale Brecht’s father dies in a horrific car accident after a fishing trip. A year later he is in class and ends up assaulting his Spanish teacher and is sentenced to house arrest for three months. Confined to his “prison” he must make do with what he can. That is until his mother, Julie Brecht, whom is also still grieving for the death of her husband, tries to do whatever she can to keep her and her son safe. She goes to the trial, after her son assaults his teacher and waits nervously for the verdict. She is now put in a position where she may end up alone. First her husband and now her son; there is nothing she can do besides sit and wait. So when her son is released on house arrest she does anything and everything she can do to keep him out of getting into any more trouble. She cracks down on him, telling him that this is not a holiday. So she cuts out his Xbox, iTunes, attempting to drive him in the right direction. As he acts out and states that after she unplugs the television that he could just plug it back in, drives her to take a new step in authority and cut the wire with scissors. You can easily see that Julie Brecht is trying to hold herself and what’s left of her family together. She creates the realistic character of the real single mother’s out there who depended on their deceased husband for support and who were the back bones to their household. She represents the widows who must take on the role of a mother and a father. This is all new to her; you can clearly see that she use to be easy on Kale. He was clearly closer to his father who is no longer with them, and now that he is gone it has driven Kale and Julie further apart.
