The main point of this article is to stress the scarcity of women engineers. The article presents the number of 95 percent of people in engineering is men. There is a need for women engineers. So they are trying to research no programs and ways to attract women engineers and also how to keep them interested. They want more diversity is the main idea. To get more women interested they used programs such as tutoring, and social networks. They were only improvements but really did not have a great impact. The article uses logos to get the point across. The usage of percentages emphasizes the point that there is a very little amount of women compared to men in the engineering field, especially minority women. There were programs created and grants received to encourage more women into the programs. What is missing from this article would be where else do they plan to target to attract more women engineers. All around the world or in just specific places in the United States.

This article is about a group started for women engineers called SAWomEng. This group targets women engineers of all fields. The group represents (South African Women in Engineering). It was created to create a resource for women to have the opportunity to get jobs as engineers and strive in the real world. It was created to provide awareness because many women in this area did not know about engineering and how to get involved in it. They believed that engineering was not properly marketed to women so they did not know about it. They want to publicize so the group was made. The lack of good advertising resulted in the scarcity of women engineers. They want people excited about engineering. Their conference did have an impact among women. At the conference that they held in University of Cape Town it provided women with more knowledge more insight, encouragement. It was a base of information that they might have never known about other wise. It was an eye opener that maybe they could put their skills into a successful career or maybe some of the women knew someone that could go into that field. This article was argued by pathos. There was use of pathos because the group was established for women who other wise may not have the opportunity to learn about engineering. It was a “vision to provide mentorship for students so as to bridge the gap between the university environment and the engineering industry” (Anonymous pg 2) The argument could have been made stronger by providing the reactions of the women. How did they seem to respond to the information given to them. Did they seem interested, did some seem to drift off or confused. They everyone have smiles of eagerness. What were reactions? When asking and answering questions did any one sincerely have a taste for the career? This again helps me to realize that there are people in this world that want female engineers. There is a thirst for us. They want to revolutionize the industry. Flip it upside down. And women are encouraging other women to become apart of this revolution. We must show that women can do what men can do.

The main point of this article is to establish the difference between belief and fact. Where do you draw the line? Do you do what you think is right or do you put your feelings aside and do what you know is right or what you are told is right? Well that is the problem. When do you know what you believe will help better mankind or will it hurt it. Where and when do you know when to step aside and let someone else handle the problems. When do you know when the problem is out of your hands. As an engineer the world is are child. If we make a mistake or judge something slightly wrong everything to come crashing down. The main idea of this article is to let known the predicament that engineers must face when being in charge of things like this. They have established codes. Codes that guide us to “deal from safety” (Hole pg 1). The flaw in this article would be to provide examples of specific cases and their consequences. It would better help the reader to visualize and picture they amount of responsibility that is put onto an engineer. That would better help the article to be stronger. It would provide more reality to the article.

This article although short explains an event provided by a very well known college for engineering, University of Illinois. It explains what could be introduced to the engineering field through this event. They are providing the opportunity to women to have a chance to experience the taste of engineering. They explain what it is that they would be participating in, like designing roller coasters, and prosthetics. This event is for women. Again, trying to get women involved in the engineering field. It is very scarce to find women in this field so people are trying to get them involved anyway they can. So this article targets not only women in general but young women, women still in high school. To get them on the right track and in the right direction at an early time so they can do everything they need to do to make it in the field of their choice. They are trying to show them that it is not boring and that it can be fun and that it is possible you just need the right sources and the right push and drive to make it work.
This article lacks information about how exactly they will be encouraging the young women. Of course they will be doing projects but they also need to specify how they will be doing the projects. Will they be in groups or individual activities? Will it be timed? Is it just for fun? Will the girls be encouraged by a certain prize? Or are they just given the projects and sent on their way? How will they indivivdually address each girl’s goals, dreams, and questions? Answering these questions would strengthen this article.

Once again this article is addressing the lack of women engineers that the world has. Men and women are created equal yet differently. Women offer something different than men. Women can bring different things to the table than a man can. Women use more of their hearts, not saying that men do not but women sometimes have more passion and drive for things. The article compares this comparison as a “tournament-style event”. Women are the underdogs and will be victorious in the end. The flaws in this article would be the comparison to American Idol. Though it does relate back to something more people could probably relate to, it did not really explain the competition between the men and women. Although they do compete in the show it veered away from the engineering subject. It could be strengthened by talking about other ways the women competed against the men and came out on top and victorious. This article helped me because it again emphasizes the criticalness of women engineers.
